about

For Trancemorph’s debut release, label runner Angus Cameron has put together an EP titled ‘Electronic Funk Experiments’ under his Space NCODR alias. The EP consists of 3 tracks in the form of experiments commissioned by ‘The Cosmic Research Institute’ – a fictional scientific bureau of Cameron’s own conception. The institute conducts deep space experiments, reinterpreting them as electronic patterns. This sci-fi narrative is replicated in Space NCODR’s production which reinterprets the human voice as electronic sound and vice-versa (notably through the use of vocoders). The interrelationship between humans and machines is a resonant theme in Space NCODR’s work.

Stylistically, the release moves freely across the spectrum of electronic music. Experiment 1: Now Ever and Experiment 2: Cloudy take inspiration from the futuristic sounds of Detroit Techno with their spacey, synth heavy ambience. Although beatless, they feature techno’s archetypal repetition of patterns and build-up. Experiment 3 Mission (Cosmic) was created with the dancefloor in mind. The track draws upon electro and broken beat influences which are synthesized into a heads down DJ tool.
